KV Show now has Modern Quilt category!

At our April meeting, Louise McShane spoke on new judging categories at the Kennebecasis Valley Quilt Guild annual show which will be held September 19-21, 2019. The theme of this year's show, KV's 39th, is Nature's Inspiration. 

Louise, a past convenor of the show, and new Moncton Modern Quilt Guild member, introduced the new category and answers members' questions. She provided us with the following information:

Judging Categories KVQG 2019

Non Traditional:

ART Original Design - 3 ribbons
ART Based on pattern - 3 ribbons

Art quilts include non-traditional materials and techniques such as fabric painting, thread work, photo transfer, felting, or  machine embroidery. The design may be abstract or realistic, as in a landscape, still life or portrait.

MODERN  Original Design - 3 ribbons
MODERN  Based on pattern - 3 ribbons

Traits of a Modern quilt include use of negative space, improvisational piecing, solids or modern prints, minimalism, asymmetry and updating of classic quilt blocks.


Large Traditional:

Pieced - 3 ribbons
Applique - 3 ribbons
Both pieced and applique - 3 ribbons

Small Traditional:

Pieced - 3 ribbons
Applique - 3 ribbons
Both pieced and applique - 3 ribbons


Kit   

Quilt assembled from a pattern with all materials provided 1 ribbon

Please note: The registration info is not posted on the KV blog yet.  The electronic form for quilt registration will be available July 1st and the closing date is Aug. 16th. One needs to fill out a separate form for each quilt entered - but the form should fill out quickly.  Non-members are limited to entering 5 quilts and the cost is $5 each quilt.

Ann Perry, convenor of their 40th show in 2020, has also shared that the theme for that show will be Red and White. Thanks, Ann for telling us and giving us lots of time to dream up those designs and shop for the perfect red and white fabrics!
